NUT held an international exchange event "Let's talk in English with international students!" supported by our international students
February 27, 2026
Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) held an international exchange event titled "Let's talk in English with international students!" on Thursday, February 19, involving students from Nakanoshima Chuo Elementary School and international students from NUT.
This event was organized following a request from the elementary school and a proposal by our organization, Student SDGs Promoters. The goal of the event was to provide pupils with a practical opportunity to apply their English language skills while fostering mutual international understanding and deepening their interest in diverse cultures.
For this fifth round of the program, approximately 110 fifth and sixth graders from the elementary school joined 11 international students from the SDGs Promoters, representing Bangladesh, Ghana, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam. After the international students introduced themselves, the participants split into 11 groups for exchange activities.
Using worksheets and tablets, the pupils introduced themselves in English and gave presentations about their skills and their memories of school life. Following this, the international students introduced the culture and daily life of their home countries. During the Q&A session, the pupils actively asked questions using the English expressions they had practiced in class.
The 6th graders participated in the event for the second time, following their participation in the 5th grade, and interacted with the international students by making use of what they had learned so far. On the other hand, for the 5th graders, it was their first time to participate, but they deepened their exchange with the international students in a friendly atmosphere throughout, such as by seeing them off after the event.
We will continue to promote educational support activities that heighten interest in the world. By collaborating with individuals of diverse values and backgrounds, we remain committed to deepening learning toward a sustainable society and providing practical opportunities that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
